Spitzenhaus Zürich, ZH
The business premises of the “Spitzenhaus” are located on the ground floor at Börsenstrasse 14 in Zurich. The seven-axis building in neo-Renaissance style was constructed in 1884 according to the plans of the architects Baur & Nabholz. This is where the De Giacomi-Kaufmann family sold exquisite and handmade lace and embroidery between 1920 and 2013. Due to the long-standing tenancy, no significant structural changes had been made for almost 100 years.
In close cooperation with the monument preservation authorities, the premises were gently renovated with the aim of expressing the extraordinary qualities of the historic premises in all their facets. The leading question of how this space with its historical and qualitatively significant substance can be preserved for other uses was of great interest.
