Formable Wall Kortrijk BEL
The first things we usually think about, while reimagining tomorrow’s living space, are the materials, the every day products, and the furniture that defines the way we live today. Thereby we are forgetting the most basic element, which has the biggest impact on space - the wall. We would like to give the wall a new meaning and use by making it deformable. Conventionally a wall has fulfilled important roles such as protecting us from the dangers of the nature, providing privacy, and creating a climatic boundary. The invention of a deformable wall allows a new way of using space, which was impossible with a conventional rigid wall. We can change the layout and the atmospheres of a space by putting objects such as furniture «in» the wall and even expanding the space itself by pushing it. To achieve this, the new wall is split up into many very small pieces and these pieces are connected on both sides with an elastic membrane. Therefore each piece can move horizontally and the wall can become any possible shape. This wall can be used both from the inside and the outside. The space deformed from inside will redefine outside and vice versa. There is therefore a new type of spacial interaction between in- and outside. This deformable wall could be an new fascinating element in tomorrow‘s living space.
